There were no winners of the massive Powerball and Mega Millions jackpots this week, swelling the grand prizes of those contests to $455 and $345 million respectively for this weekend’s drawings.
The odds of winning the Powerball grand prize, which requires a ticket to have all six numbers and the Powerball are 292,201,338 to 1. the odds of picking all five numbers and the Megaball in Mega Millions are even higher at 302,575,350 to 1.
By comparison, the odds of getting hit by lighting in your lifetime are much less: one in 9 million. But the lottery is much easier to hit than it is to pick a perfect bracket in the NCAA Basketball Tournament, which is 1 in 9.2 quintillion…
The last time the Mega Millions jackpot was won was on January 5, 2018 for $451 million. The Powerball was last hit the very next day, for $570 million.
Mega Millions’ next jackpot will be drawn on Friday, March 16th. Powerball will be drawn the next day, St. Patrick’s Day. Will the luck of the Irish prevail?
